How to find jobs that are not on LinkedIn or Indeed
Updated October 11, 2026 · 3 min read
A lot of real openings never appear on LinkedIn or Indeed. They are posted on the company's own career page and left there. If your search starts and ends on the boards, you are only seeing the roles someone paid to distribute, or the ones a recruiter decided to mirror.
That missing slice is not a secret club. It is ordinary hiring. A team of twelve posts a role on its site, shares it internally, and does not buy a slot on a board. The posting is public. It is just inconvenient to find if you are opening career sites one by one.
Why a role stays off the big boards
- The company would rather take direct applicants than pay for distribution.
- The team is small, and nobody's job is to repost the listing everywhere.
- The role is specific. A niche title dies in a general search box, so they leave it on the page where the right person might look.
- They already get enough applicants from their own site, referrals, and past candidates.
- The board listing would be a shortened, older copy. The career page is the one they actually update.
None of this means the role is easy to get. It means fewer people are looking at it at the same moment, because it is not sitting in a feed with a counter that says two hundred applicants.
Stop collecting career-page links by hand
The hard way is a notes file: one link per company, checked whenever you remember. It works for a week. Then the file goes stale, you re-open roles you already rejected, and you miss the company you never thought to add.
JobLookout does the collection. It reads career pages and puts the roles in one list. You choose the functions and countries you care about, then filter work mode and level. When a role is worth a real look, you open it on the company site. The guide on applying on the career page covers what to do there.
What to set before you scroll
- Pick functions, not a single clever keyword. A search for one exact title hides adjacent roles you would have taken.
- Pick countries you can actually work in. Remote is not the same as worldwide.
- Set work mode: remote, hybrid, or on-site. Leave this open and you will spend the session closing the wrong kind of job.
- Set experience level. An entry search that still shows director roles is not a search.
- Sort by match when you want fit, and by date when you only want what was posted recently.
What this search will not do
It will not invent roles, write your application, or guarantee a reply. Some career pages are vague. Some roles are a stretch. Some companies post and then go quiet. The point of leaving the boards is a cleaner list and a direct path to the team that is hiring, not a promise that hiring is suddenly easy.
Use the boards if you want them. Just do not treat them as the whole market. The rest of the market is on the career pages. Read that list in JobLookout.
